BVB in relegation zone for the winter

Dortmund´s nightmare scenario has come true: The team will stay in relegation zone for the winter after losing 1:2 against Bremen. FC Bayern meanwhile lead the pack with eleven points after beating Mainz. Wolfsburg follow in chart while Hamburg, Freiburg, Stuttgart and Bremen join Dortmund in the lower third of the chart. Next matchday will take place at the end of January.

Juergen Klopp (in black) is right in the middle of his biggest crisis as BVB coach.

Borussia Dortmund have hit the bottom of their current crisis: For the next six weeks – the winter break – BVB will stay on the second to last place in chart after a very weak performance against Werder Bremen and a 1:2-loss. The 15 points to their name mean the worst first half of the season in 36 years while they have lost ten matches already – more than in every whole season since Klopp took over command in 2008.

FC Bayern on the other hand can look back at one of the best first season legs ever: Only four goals against stand for a record for eternity, 13 matches without the opponents scoring and an eleven point gap towards second place. Next in chart are Wolfsburg after beating Cologne 2:1. Bayer Leverkusen only drew against Frankfurt and sit six points behind VfL while Moenchengladbach, that lost 1:2 against FC Augsburg follow with one point less. Schalke and FCA also have 27 points.

Former big names in danger

The danger zone of the chart harbors several big-name-teams at the moment: While Borussia Dortmund still seem a bit misplaced down there, Hamburger SV, Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart gradually get known for relegation struggle. Hamburg drew 0:0 against Schalke while Stuttgart did the same against Paderborn.

The Sunday matches saw TSG 1899 Hoffenheim crush Berlin 5:0 to underline their Europa-League ambitions as they stay in touch with seventh place and SC Freiburg failed to leave relegation zone after leading 2:0 ten minutes to the end. Two late goals of Hanover equalized the score and made Freiburg the last placed team until end of January.
