All quarter finals set
With the final matchday of the last-16-draw played all four quarter finals of FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil are set. Argentina and Belgium defeated Switzerland and the USA to secure their ticket for next round. Both matches were pretty close ones as Argentina scored the winning goal just minutes before the end and Belgium needed 120 minutes to beat USA.
The round of the last 16 is over and all quarter finals of FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil are set. On the last matchday Argentina met Switzerland and Belgium faced the USA. The first match was pretty close as brave Swiss put a lot of effort into defending. Surprisingly it was the team of Ottmar Hitzfeld that had the best opportunities during first half but they missed poorly.
The second half saw Argentina improving and getting several good chances. A nice solo run of Lionel Messi who passed over to Di Maria lead to the only goal of the match just minutes before the end. Switzerland pushed for the equalizer in the last moment of the game but failed to score. Argentina won 1:0 and their opponent had to be decided in the duel of Belgium and USA.
The USA, as they have been doing over the whole championship, fought with all they had and convinced on a physical level. Belgium had more of the game and several good chances but a very strong playing Tim Howard in USA´s box prevented their attempts more than once. After 90 minutes the score was 0:0 and extra time had to decide about the winner. Belgium were off to a very strong start and scored twice during the first half. USA however got one back and about 15 very intense minutes followed with several opportunities. In the end luck was not on US side and Belgium won 2:1. All four quarter finals are listed below:
