Bayer defeating Bayern
FC Bayern Munich have lost their first match this Bundesliga season. Bayer 04 Leverkusen defeated them 2-1 in Allianz Arena on Sunday late afternoon. Borussia Dortmund won their match on Saturday in Freiburg with 2-0. Schalke beat Nuremberg with 1-0 and VFL Wolfsburg was able to win the first match after Felix Magath.
The seemingly impossible has happened: The superior playing FC Bayern Munich have lost the first match in Bundesliga this season. After eight victories in a row to start a season (all time record in Bundesliga) Jupp Heynckes´ team lost the home game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on late Sunday afternoon.
Bayern played better overall but Leverkusen were extremely efficient, scoring two goals out of barely two opportunities. Kießling (42th minute) put Bayer in the lead just before the break. FC Bayern´s increased rate of attempts on second half resulted in Mandzukic´s (77th) equalizer. FCB however failed to seal the deal and a strange attempted header by Sam (84th) landed in Boateng´s face finding the back of the net afterwards. FC Bayern are after this loss still four points better than second placed FC Schalke 04.
Gladbach turning the game
Borussia Moenchengladbach played at the same time on Sunday against Hanover 96. The match was not really worth being seen in first half, but things changed in second. Hanover scored twice during five minutes in person of Schlaudraff (48th) and Diouf (53th) to get in the lead but Gladbach only needed nine minutes to get in control of the match and secure the win.
Juan Arango was the man of the match assisting twice and scoring the victory goal himself. Alvaro Dominguez (70th) and Brouwers (77th) equalized for Gladbach. Brouwer´s goal was a header after a freekick long ball of Arango. Just two minutes later a similar situation occurred and everybody was expecting another long ball from the left side about 25-30 meters away from the goal, but Arango (79th) surprising everybody brilliantly shot the ball in the close corner to score the winning goal.
Dortmund winning winter games in Freiburg
Borussia Dortmund already on Saturday won their match against SC Freiburg with 2-0. On a snowy pitch that was quite uneasy to play on BVB played a bad first but a good second half and scored twice in the process to secure the first win on foreign territory this season.
Schalke 04 meanwhile beat Nuremberg in an intense match with 1-0, Mainz beat Hoffenheim with 3-0 thanks to three goals of Adam Szalai and Greuther Fuerth and Werder Bremen drew 1-1.
Wolfsburg victorious without Magath
VFL Wolfsburg won the first match after Felix Magath. The club from Lower Saxony and the coach ended the employment contract on Thursday. Lorenz Guenther Koestner who is in charge temporarily changed the team on several positions. VFL beat Duesseldorf with 4-1 gaining three important points on the way out of the relegation positions in chart.
Hamburger SV defeated FC Augsburg in a pretty bad Bundesliga match on Friday night with 2-0. Son (13th) and Rudnevs (63th) scored for HSV. Eintracht Frankfurt were beaten by VFB Stuttgart on Sunday afternoon with 2-1. Vedad Ibisevic decided the game a couple of minutes before the end with his goal for the 2-1.
German football will be back under the week when second round of DFB Pokal will be played out.
