Bayern, Leverkusen with ease; Dortmund lucky
Matchday 14 in Bundesliga saw FC Bayern Munich and Bayer 04 Leverkusen win their matches against Braunschweig and Nuremberg with ease and Borussia Dortmund struggle in Mainz, but also win in the end. Borussia Moenchengladbach and FC Schalke both also won their matches while Wolfsburg and HSV only drew in the Friday night game.
It took FC Bayern only two minutes on Saturday afternoon to score the first goal against last placed Eintracht Braunschweig and many might have feared the worst for the recently promoted club. But Bayern took the foot of the gas and in the end just won 2:0 not crushing Eintracht. The victory puts them still seven points in the lead towards Borussia Dortmund and four towards Bayer Leverkusen.
The two hunters also managed to win their game, but Leverkusen did so in style with leaving Nuremberg no chance winning 3:0. Dortmund on the other hand had quite some problems as they faced Coach Juergen Klopp´s former club FSV Mainz 05. A world class free kick from Aubameyang put them in the lead late in the game and after Mainz got one back by penalty, two scored penalties from BVB made them return to winning ways. Next weekend, after DFB Pokal matches on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Dortmund and Leverkusen will meet in Bundesliga.
Schalke and Gladbach winning
Borussia Moenchengladbach stayed in touch with Dortmund as they beat SC Freiburg on late Sunday. FC Schalke defeated VfB Stuttgart on Saturday night with 3:0 to surpass VfL Wolfsburg on fifth place. Wolfsburg only drew 1:1 in the North Derby against Hamburger SV on Friday night as HSV left out some good opportunities in the late stages of the game.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen both showed quite the fight on their Saturday afternoon match. Hoffenheim were leading 2:0 before Bremen equalized with two goals just before the break. In second half Hoffenheim got back to leading 4:2 before once again Bremen got back and scored the 4:4 just seconds before the end.
More games this weekend saw Hanover 96 beat Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday with 2:0 putting Eintracht deeper in the hole in Bundesliga. Despite their qualification for K.O. stage in Europa League they have not won a league matches in nine games. Hertha BSC Berlin and FC Augsburg meanwhile drew 0:0.
