Bayern winning triple
FC Bayern Munich are the first team ever in German history to win the triple. By defeating VFB Stuttgart in an overall surprisingly tense final of DFB Pokal Jupp Heynckes´s team finished all three big competitions, Bundesliga, Champions League and the cup as winners.
“Oans, Zwoa, Drei”. Leaving the Bavarian dialect aside it means “one, two, three” and was written on the T-Shirts FCB players celebrated their final win of the season. One week after beating Borussia Dortmund in Wembley to secure the Champions League title FC Bayern headed into the match with VFB Stuttgart to secure the triple win for the first time in German history.
Bayern did not dominate the match from the start as expected and VFB Stuttgart had some good opportunities in first half until Thomas Mueller (37th minute) scored the lead for his team after an at least questionable penalty kick. Mario Gomez (48th, 61th) scored twice after the break to almost ensure Bayern´s final win as FCB were really dominant in this phase of the game.
Towards the end their grip loosened however and Stuttgart managed to score twice in person of Martin Harnik (71th, 80th) to spice up the last minutes of the game that had been seen a superb playing FC Bayern Munich for most of the match despite Stuttgart´s efforts.
In the end it was enough for Bayern to win the trophy and earning the third title this season. Jupp Heynckes accomplished the historic achievement of winning all three big titles for the first time in history of German football and leaving Pep Guardiola quite some task to start his new job as head coach in Bayern next season.
