Bayern with first defeat, Dortmund and Schalke unlucky
FC Bayern Munich have lost the first match this season. Against Belarus´ champion BATE Borisov FCB lost 1-3. Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 both got pretty unlucky to get the late equalizer despite dominating their matches against Manchester City and Montpellier.

Germany´s record title holder FC Bayern Munich have lost the first match this season. Belarus´ champion BATE Borisov defeated FCB 3-1 in Champions League second round group matches. Pavlov scored the surprising lead in minute 23 in a match that was clearly dominated by FCB from the first minute on.
FCB made the game but Borisov had a couple of strong counter attacks and Rodionov increased the score in minute 78 to 2-0 despite Bayern´s dominance. Ribery got one back in minute 91 but Bressan put the finishing touch on another fast counter in minute 94 to set the score board to 3-1. Borisov have six points now and lead in group F. Valencia beat Lille 2-0 in the other match and have three points now as well as FCB. The next two matches in Champions League for FCB will be against Lille.
Borussia Dortmund got unlucky to only draw against Premier League champion Manchester City. Before the match started everybody in Dortmund would have been pleased with getting one point in Manchester but the match saw BVB dominate its opponent especially in second half resulting in several very good attempts but a strong Joe Hart in City´s goal prevented his team from losing.
Marco Reus scored the leading goal for Dortmund anyway about 30 minutes before the end and Goetze, Lewandowski and Reus had more than one opportunity to secure the win but all failed to score. Just seconds before the end BVB defender Neven Subotic got the ball shot at his arm from about one meter distance with not much chance to react. He stood in the box and the ref decided it was worth a penalty that Mario Balotelli used to score the equalizer they barely deserved.
In the end it was 1-1 and Dortmund have four points now, City only one. BVB´s opponent for the next two games will be Real Madrid that won in Amsterdam with 4-1 and lead the very competitive group D with six points out of two matches.
Schalke 04 had pretty much the same faith as Montpellier scored the equalizer just seconds before the end. S04 had been able to turn things around to 2-1 after being one behind thanks to two goals of Draxler and Huntelaar. Despite being one man more after Montpellier´s Bocaly was sent off with a red card Schalke failed to increase the lead and got unlucky enough to get the equalizing goal in minute 90.
Schalke´s next opponent will be Arsenal London that have six points after defeating Piraeus with 3-1 with German Lukas Podolski scoring the important 2-1 for his team. Schalke have four points now and Montpellier have one.
Four German teams will play in Europa League tonight. Hanover 96 will meet Levante, Bayer 04 Leverkusen will play in Trondheim, Borussia Moenchengladbach will receive Fenerbahce Istanbul and VFB Stuttgart will face off with Molde FK.
