Bundesliga season 2013/2014 starts
The Bundesliga is back after the summer break and will return on Friday night with FC Bayern and Moenchengladbach going head to head. Borussia Dortmund will play against Augsburg on Saturday, same with Leverkusen and SC Freiburg. FC Schalke 04 will receive Hamburger SV on late Sunday for the last game on matchday one.
After two months without first league football German Bundesliga is back for season 2013/2014. After a historic season with FC Bayern winning the triple, leading the pack in Germany by 25 points in the end and a German final of UEFA Champions League the Bundesliga will continue for more with FC Bayern starting against Gladbach on Friday night.
Star coach Pep Guardiola will have almost every player of the strong squad available except Mario Goetze who is looking forward to play his first matches for Bayern during the next weeks. The game against Gladbach on Friday will most likely see some goals as no first league match ever in Bundesliga ended 0-0.
Dortmund, Leverkusen on Saturday
The two biggest rivals of FC Bayern last season – although this expression might be inaccurate as they were 25 and 26 points behind FCB – Borussia Dortmund and Bayer 04 Leverkusen will start their season on Saturday afternoon. BVB will meet FC Augsburg, a team that has not won a match against BVB in Bundesliga yet and Leverkusen will face SC Freiburg.
The match between Hanover 96 and VFL Wolfsburg will be the first Derby of Lower Saxony of the season with two teams trying to go for Europe this season. The two more matches on Saturday afternoon will take place between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and 1. FC Nuremberg as well as between recently promoted Hertha BSC Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt
Braunschweig in night match
The second promoted team Eintracht Braunschweig will face Werder Bremen in the night match on Saturday. It will be the first match for Braunschweig in first Bundesliga since 1985. The opponent Bremen have won the last seven matches against Eintracht in cup and league but after being kicked out of DFB Pokal in first round Bremen are in the first crisis of the season.
The two Sunday matches between Mainz 05 and VFB Stuttgart and FC Schalke 04 receiving Hamburger SV will round up matchday one. With Schalke and HSV clashing on late Sunday it will be a bit like in the starting match on Friday night: The statistic likelihood of goals being scored is pretty high as only three of the 90 matches of those two ended 0-0.
