BVB defeating FCB 3:0
Borussia Dortmund beat FC Bayern Munich with 3:0 in Germany´s version of the „clasico“. The match was more for the prestige though as FCB already locked up the title for three matchdays now. The tension in relegation struggle is rising furthermore with four games to go. HSV and Braunschweig to the benefit of Hanover and Freiburg, catapulting the last mentioned two five points ahead of position 15 while the last four are only separated by one point each.
The championship is over, Bayern have the title locked up and “the Bundesliga is over” as Coach Guardiola stated recently. Borussia Dortmund´s only ambitions are finishing second and therefore they might have needed the three points in the match of the two German top teams a little more than Munich. A passionate performance, especially working against the ball, enabled BVB to stop Bayern´s strong offense and win the match 3:0 by effectively using their opportunities – usually not their specialty event. BVB were under a bit of pressure to defend second place as FC Schalke had won 2:0 against Frankfurt on Friday night and had been equalizing the score on them.
The relegation struggle is getting more and more intense every week. Two direct confrontations of teams of the lower chart segments had to fight it out on matchday 29. Hanover 96 and SC Freiburg were the beneficiaries as they beat Hamburger SV and Eintracht Braunschweig 2:1 and 2:0 respectively. Both left the danger zone for now and lead position 16 by five points at the moment. HSV on the other hand are sitting on that 16th place with 27 points only one before Nuremberg, that lost 1:4 against Wolfsburg and two before Braunschweig. VfB Stuttgart with 28 points on 15 only drew 1:1 against Gladbach despite several opportunities and the lead for most of the match.
SV Werder Bremen were crushed by Mainz 05 with 3:0 but their 33 points should be enough to secure them from relegation. Bayer 04 Leverkusen meanwhile had a good start with new head coach Sascha Lewandowksi as they beat Hertha BSC Berlin 2:1 on Sunday. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim won 2:0 against Augsburg almost certainly ending their dreams of Europa League as FCA are five points behind Mainz on seventh place.
