BVB defeats FCB, “Revierderby” against Schalke ahead
Borussia Dortmund won the most important game of the season against FC Bayern Munich with 1-0 thanks to Robert Lewandowski´s goal. Their lead is six points now with four more games to go. On Saturday the next highlight is coming. Schalke receives BVB for the “Revierderby”.
Current German champion Borussia Dortmund have made a giant leap towards defending their title. In matchday 30´s headliner BVB defeated FC Bayern Munich in an intense match with 1-0. Robert Lewandowski scored the deciding goal in minute 77.
Dortmund was the far better team in halftime one but FCB turned things around after the break controlling the match more and more. After Lewandowski´s goal Arjen Robben missed two big opportunities as he failed to score a penalty in minute 85 and shot the ball far over the goal standing only five meters in front of it only two minutes later.
BVB now leads Bayern with six points, but the next hard match is just ahead as they will have to face Schalke 04 on Saturday. The so called “Revierderby” is the most anticipated game for both supporters as the two clubs are full of hatred for each other.
S04 is more or less safe for position three in chart leading Gladbach with four points but the match against BVB is always a big thing for both teams. Schalke lost in Nuremberg on Wednesday with 1-4 and wants to keep Gladbach in distance as BVB is looking to secure the title as soon as possible.
Nuremberg will play 1. FC Kaiserslautern this weekend. For FCK all hopes to stay in League one have been vanished with Bayer 04 Leverkusen defeating them with 2-1 on Wednesday - the first victory under new head coach Sami Hyypiä. Leverkusen will face Hertha BSC Berlin on Saturday. Otto Rehagel´s team has only 27 points and is on track for second league in Germany if they do not win against Bayer 04.
FC Bayern Munich will play Mainz 05 on Saturday night and need to win in order to keep the small hope of becoming Germany´s champion 2011/2012 alive. Mainz on the other hand just crushed 1. FC Cologne with 4-0 and gained some points in relegation struggle.
Cologne is going to face Borussia Moenchengladbach on Sunday. Gladbach only chopped the points in Bremen although they were 2-1 in the lead after two goals of Mike Hanke turned the match around. Bremen had scored the early lead but Sebastian Boenisch was sent to the rail in minute 27. Naldo equalized the score board in minute 74.
Werder Bremen will play against VFB Stuttgart on Friday night. Stuttgart is on a roll over the last couple of weeks climbing up the chart. With their 3-1-victory in Augsburg on Tuesday they managed to solid their fifth rank with 46 points. Now a direct rival for Europa League is coming to Stuttgart.
Hanover 96 and Wolfsburg also had a direct matchup for Europa-League-places in chart on Wednesday. 96 had the best of it as Mama Diouff and Didier Ya Koonan made the goals for them leaving the score board 2-0. Wolsburg is facing FC Augsburg on Saturday. FCA with 30 points still desperately need victories in relegation struggle.
Same applies for Hanover´s next opponent Hamburger SV. Thorsten Fink´s team was crushed by Hoffenheim on Wednesday with 4-0. 31 points and rank 14 is not the best of situations for the traditional first league club.
Hoffenheim on the other hand has 40 points and small hopes for Europe. The relegation struggle is over for Markus Babbel´s team anyhow. On late Sunday they will play in Freiburg. SCF have played pretty well over the last weeks slowly climbing up the chart. 35 points and position 13 is the current status and they are just a couple of points away from leaving the relegation struggle behind.
Freiburg defeated Hertha BSC Berlin on Tuesday with 2-1. Roman Hubnik was the man of the match but not in a good way. First he scored for Freiburg with an own goal in minute 7, then he lost the decisive battle before the 2-0 of Sebastian Freis and finally he scored in the right goal shortening SCF´s lead in minute 81.
