Classic Revierderby in Bundesliga
On matchday 14 Borussia Dortmund will face Schalke 04 on home turf. It is the mother of all derbies in German Bundesliga. Both teams are on a heater right now as second placed BVB meets fourth placed Schalke. Also on this matchday: Nordderby between Hanover 96 and Hamburger SV.
The encounter of BVB and S04 is the mother of all derbies.
Borussia Dortmund has been the most successful team of German Bundesliga over the last seven games. They gathered 19 of the possible 21 points. Right behind them is Schalke 04 with 16 points. No surprise they are both under the top four teams in chart. This weekend they will encounter in a matchup that is much more than a normal football game.
The “Revierderby” as it is called in Germany is the most prestigious derby in German football. The rivalry between Schalke and Dortmund has grown for decades and every supporter of the teams is looking forward to the game all season.
Both teams have not lost a match in seven games and both are looking to end the streak of the other. In overall statistic it´s an even game: Dortmund won 27 times as did Schalke. But S04 have only lost two out of twelve since 2005.
BVB also has to substitute key midfielder Sven Bender who´s jaw was broken twice on Wednesday. Young super talent Mario Goetze also was injured in the match against Arsenal London but might be able to play against Schalke.
It is the matchday of the derbies as Hanover 96 receives Hamburger SV for a “Nordderby”. Hanover have been on a little dry period over the last weeks as HSV was emerging from the bottom of the chart with two wins and no loss in five games.
Hanover however is unbeaten for four games straight against HSV, so it will be a tense matchup.
More games on Saturday will be: 1. FC Nuremberg against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, TSG Hoffenheim against SC Freiburg, FC Augsburg against VFL Wolfsburg and Hertha BSC Berlin against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Bayer will be highly motivated by their last minute win against Chelsea on Wednesday which secured the next round in Champions League.
Already on Friday night there will be another derby on this matchday: Cologne will receive surprising team of this campaign Borussia Moenchengladbach. Cologne have not won against Gladbach since 2008. Gladbach is on a heater after crushing Werder Bremen with 5-0 last week.
Bremen will have to face Stuttgart on Sunday right before FC Bayern Munich will play against Mainz 05.
