Borussia Dortmund managed to secure their ticket for the round of the last eight by defeating Shaktar Donezk on home turf with 3-0. BVB played a strong match an controlled most of it leading 2-0 by half time already. Real Madrid also won their match in Manchester to get to the next round.
Borussia Dortmund will play in the round of the last eight teams in UEFA Champions League. BVB defeated Shakhtar Donezk on Tuesday with 3-0 in Signal-Iduna-Park showing a strong performance. It is the first time in 15 years Dortmund will play in the quarterfinals of this competition.
Felipe Santana scored the lead about half an hour into the game after a corner kick from Mario Goetze. The 20-year-old German “wunderkind” scored the 2-0 himself just minutes later. The lead put Dortmund in a dominant and comfortable position after the 2-2-result from the first leg in the Ukraine.
After the break they almost got too comfortable as Donezk had two good opportunities in the first couple of minutes. BVB got back grip of the game rather quickly as Jakub “Kuba” Blaszczykowski scored the 3-0 in minute 59 after a severe mistake from Donezk keeper Piatov.
Match draw open
After that victory every match is possible as the draw for the next round will not have any boundaries concerning teams of the same nation or those who have played together in group. If Schalke and Bayern will pass on to the next round next week Dortmund could meet them in the quarterfinals.
A match with Real Madrid is also possible as they beat Manchester United with 2-1 to secure their ticket for next round. ManU were very unlucky however as Nani got sent off the pitch with a red card that was a very hard decision. Yellow would have been clearly the better decision there. As he got sent off the score was 1-0 for Manchester. Only a couple of minutes later it was 2-1 for Real Madrid. Ironically Christiano Ronaldo scored the winning goal against his former employee.
