Dortmund winning headliner
Borussia Dortmund won matchday 20´s headliner against Leverkusen with 3-2 in what was one of the strongest matches this season so far. FC Bayern seemingly easy won their match in Mainz with 3-0 staying twelve points ahead of newly second placed Dortmund. Hamburg lost the Saturday night match against Frankfurt and Werder Bremen won the North Derby against Hanover on Friday.
Borussia Dortmund surpassed Bayer 04 Leverkusen this weekend by defeating the Factory Squad on their home territory with 3-2. More than 30,000 people in Leverkusen saw one of the best matches this season as BVB shot the early lead in person of Reus (3th minute) and Kuba (9th). Just after the break Leverkusen got back into the game that was more or less controlled by Dortmund up to this point.
Reinhartz (58th, 62th) scored twice for Leverkusen to equalize the score within four minutes but Robert Lewandowski almost instantly put Dortmund back in the lead. Kuba even had the chance to seal the deal in minute 69 but failed to score by penalty kick. The tension stayed high up to the end but Dortmund managed to secure the important win with looking at playing Champions League next season again.
Bayern still dominant
FC Bayern Munich however can look at this from quite the distance as they even increased their lead by on points thanks to Dortmund´s win. FCB beat Mainz 05 seemingly easy with 3-0 on Saturday. With 14 matches to go and this big of a gap between position one and two championship in Germany seems to be all but sure for Bayern.
Hamburger SV was looking to gain some important points on their way to European football on late Saturday against Eintracht Frankfurt but failed to score in the match with Armin Veh´s team. Frankfurt on the other hand played very well scoring twice and winning 2-0 in Hamburg.
Because of the losses of Mainz and Schalke Frankfurt managed to put a comfortable six point gap between them and fifth placed Mainz. Schalke surprisingly lost against Greuther Fuerth. The recently relegated team scored the winning goal just seconds before the end.
Bremen winning North Derby
Werder Bremen kicked off the matchday on Friday night in the next North Derby against Hanover 96. Most part of the match the board showed an equalized goalless score, but Nils Petersen (85th, 88th) scored twice during the last five minutes of the game to decide the match.
Fortuna Duesseldorf beat VFB Stuttgart on Saturday due to a strong performance with 3-1. VFL Wolfsburg and FC Augsburg drew 1-1. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and 1. FC Nuremberg won their matches against SC Freiburg and Borussia Moenchengladbach with 2-1.
