Fortuna Duesseldorf will play in 2. Bundesliga again next season after loosing 0-3 in Hanover. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim surprisingly won in Dortmund to qualify for relegation matches against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Meanwhile HSV missed out on Europa League as Frankfurt and Freiburg will play for that trophy next season. FC Schalke will play in Champions League qualifier stage as they defeated SC Freiburg.

Duesseldorf´s Axel Bellinghausen was shocked after the final whistle in Hanover

The last seconds of Bundesliga season 2012/2013 were really dramatic ones as Fortuna Duesseldorf had been condemned to relegation to 2. Bundesliga thanks to two late penalty goals by TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in Dortmund. BVB had been controlling the match over 75 minutes scoring the very early lead that was followed by several good but missed opportunities by Dortmund. In the last 15 minutes Hoffenheim scored two goals by penalty kick and BVB keeper Weidenfeller was sent off the pitch with a red card.

That victory meant Duesseldorf´s relegation as Fortuna lost their match with 0-3 in Hanover and FC Augsburg beat Greuther Fuerth with 3-1 to secure first league football next season. It was the first time since matchday 3 for Augsburg to leave bottom three in chart. 1899 will have to face 1. FC Kaiserslautern in relegation matches May 23 and 27. Hertha BSC Berlin and Eintracht Braunschweig already secured their tickets to first Bundesliga.

HSV missing out on Europe

Hamburger SV meanwhile missed out on Europa League with one goal separating them from position six over about 90 minutes of matchday 34. With Frankfurt being behind in Wolfsburg and HSV drawing 0-0 in Leverkusen Europa League was on good shot away for the team of coach Thorsten Fink, but Stefan Kießling put an end to all hopes with his 25th goal of the season in minute 90 giving him the trophy for best scorer. Eintracht Frankfurt equalized to 2-2 against Wolfsburg just seconds later.

SC Freiburg on the other hand had already secured Europa League but had the big chance to even play in Champions League qualifier by beating FC Schalke 04 on fourth place. Despite Christian Streich´s team being in charge of the match for most parts they lost 1-2 in the end enabling Schalke to qualify for Champions League while Frankfurt and Freiburg will play in Europa League next campaign.

Bayern winning on last matchday

FC Bayern Munich put the finishing touch to an astonishing season by defeating Borussia Moenchengladbach with 4-3 despite being behind early and 2-3 at half time. It was the first time in FCB´s almost 50 year old Bundesliga history that they got three goals against within the first ten minutes of the match.

SV Werder Bremen lost their last match against 1. FC Nuremberg with 2-3. It was the first match after the shocking firing of Werder coach Thomas Schaaf who had been in charge in Bremen for over 14 years. The match between VFB Stuttgart and Mainz 05 ended 2-2.
