First next round matches set
The group stages of group A and B are over and the first matches of the round of the last 16 are set. The Netherlands and Chile already had been safe for next round and went head-to-head for group winner. Brazil beat Cameroon to secure their ticket while Mexico fought down Croatia to follow the host of this FIFA World Cup.
In group B the two teams who would survive group stage already had been decided before the last matchday. The match between Spain and Australia was meaningless with Chile and Netherlands were going head-to-head for group winner. Spain showed a good performance in their last match to beat Australia 3:0 while the Netherlands secured first place with their 2:0 victory over strong Chilean players.
Their opponents out of group A had to be decided during the night matches. While Brazil finished off Cameroon 4:1 and secured the first position in the group, the match between Mexico and Croatia had more tension to offer as it was 0:0 for long time before a strong finish of Mexico saw them score three times and sent Croatia home 3:1 after Perisic´s meaningless late goal. Brazil will meet Chile while Mexico will face the Netherlands. Both matches will take place this weekend at June 28 and 29.
