Germany defeating Austria
German national football team defeated Austria´s in the second match of the qulaifiers for World Cup 2014 in Brazil. The Austrian were the better team overall however but failed to benefit from their opportunities. Germany have won two out of two so far. All results of the European part of the qualifiers are listed below the text.
Germany won luckily in Vienna.
Germany was lucky enough to win against Austria in Vienna despite a pretty bad performance. Austria had more of the game, failed to benefit from their chances and Germany was very effective. Marco Reus scored the lead just minutes before the break out of the blue after Austria´s attempts mostly ended the hands of German keeper Manuel Neuer.
Germany increased the lead just minutes into second half after a foul on Thomas Mueller in the box leading to the logical consequence of a penalty. Mesut Oezil scored the 2-0. For a couple of minutes it looked like Germany was getting a grip on the game but Marcel Schmelzer and Mario Goetze let Bremen´s Marco Arnautovic pass through on their side rather easily and he found the foot of his fellow club team mate Zlatko Junuzovic who scored the 2-1. Arnautovic himself had the winning goal on his foot just minutes before the end but the ball slipped through him standing three meters in front of the goal.
Germany have now six points out of two matches starting into the qualifiers for World Cup 2014 in Brazil. Next opponent will be the Republic of Ireland on October 12th. All results from the second matchday of the European part of the qualifiers are listed below:
