German fans had not much to celebrate for most of the match, but were relieved in the end.

The Germans made it to the next round in FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil but they struggled for a long time against Algeria to do so. With Mats Hummels being unable to play due to an influenza German defense appear quiet shaky in several spots leading to some good opportunities for Algeria. A strong playing Manuel Neuer cleared more than once in risky trips out of his box.

The German offense had its fair share of problems with Algeria, too. After 90 minutes in what had been a very weak match of Germany the score was still 0:0 and extra time had to decide about the winner. Joachim Loew´s team improved and managed to score two goals by Schuerrle and Oezil before Algeria got one back just before the match ended. A lucky victory for Germany in an intense match was the result.

In quarter finals Germany will meet France on Friday as they beat Nigeria 2:0 thanks to two late goals. The match was on an eye-to-eye level with strong playing Africans that failed to benefit from their performance in the end.
