The two rivals Dortmund and Schalke will go right behind leader Munich into the winter break. With 34 points each the two teams are three points shy of Bayern. Surprising team Gladbach will be on position 4 in chart for the winter. Last places belong to Kaiserslautern, promoted Augsburg and Freiburg.

Schalke stays on position 3 in chart.

FC Bayern Munich had the Friday night match last weekend and the opponent was 1. FC Cologne. Only 33 minutes into the match Munich´s Franck Ribery saw the yellow-red card for two unnecessary off-the-ball incidents within only 40 seconds.

Although FCB had to play the rest of the match with one man less they were way more active team throughout the whole duration. The goals of Mario Gomez, David Alaba and Toni Kroos were the inevitable consequences.

With the 3-0 victory FCB and 37 points will stay number one in Germany for the winter break. Right behind the Bundesliga´s record title holder is current champion Borussia Dortmund. They ended their first half of this campaign with 34 points and an easy 4-1 victory over last placed SC Freiburg. The goals for Dortmund were scored by Robert Lewandowski, Ilkay Guendogan and Kevin Großkreutz.

BVB´s rival Schalke 04 has 34 points after 17 matches as well. S04 crushed Werder Bremen on late Saturday with 5-0 on home turf. First three goals scored Raul, Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar rounded up the result.

The surprise of matchday 17 was Nuremberg 3-0 win in Leverkusen. Daniel Didavi, Jens Hegeler and Tomas Pekhart scored for Nuremberg.

Hamburger SV did not achieve more than a draw in the home game against promoted FC Augsburg. TSG Hoffenheim did the same against also promoted Berlin and VFL Wolfsburg defeated VFB Stuttgart with 1-0.

The Sunday match between 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Hanover 96 ended with 1-1. The last game of this half of the season was the matchup of Borussia Moenchengladbach and Mainz 05. The most surprising team so far – Gladbach escaped relegation at last minute last campaign and is on a roll this season – finished their remarkable season half on fourth place in chart with 33 points.

Bundesliga will be back on January 20 with the encounter of Gladbach and FC Bayern Munich. We will see if the “Fohlenelf” will be able to worry Munich once more this campaign.
