Quarterfinals ahead

2012´s European Championship is halfway over and the quarterfinals are lying ahead. The two hosts Poland and Ukraine are no longer part of the competition and Russia and Nederland surprisingly did not make it through first round. The German national team is going to face Greece on Friday.


England´s Wayne Rooney scored the winning goal against Ukraine.

The first half of the European Championship 2012 is over. Both hosts Poland and Ukraine did not make it through to the quarterfinals. Poland was unable to beat Czech Republic in the last match while Ukraine´s journey was ended by England.

Wayne Rooney scored the winning 1-0 for his team but the referee team clearly misread Devic shot in minute 62 as not being fully over the goal line which it was surely. England was lucky enough to bring the small lead home and head into quarterfinals where they will encounter Italy. Italy beat Ireland 2-0 in last group match.

Spain defeated a strong playing Croatian team 1-0 to kick them out of the tournament and advance to the next round. France lost the last match against Sweden 0-2 but are qualified for the quarterfinals anyway and will play against Spain.

Germany will have to play Greece on Friday night in Dansk. It will be the first German match of this EC where German chancellor Angela Merkel will be at place. In case of a German win Joachim Loew´s eleven will have to play the winner of the match England against Italy. The Thursday match will take place between Czech Republic and Portugal.
