Relegation struggle in Braunschweig

14.02.2014 12:24

Matchday 21 will be host to a true fight for relegation as 17th placed Hamburger SV will meet 18th placed Eintracht Braunschweig. HSV have lost six in a row in Bundesliga and are looking to stop their free fall while Eintracht need every point they can get especially against direct rivals. Dortmund and Bayern meanwhile will face Frankfurt and Freiburg while the top match will take place between Leverkusen and Schalke on Saturday night.

The future of HSV head of sports Kreutzer (left), coach van Marweijk (middle) and club president Jarchow is still to be decided.

Hamburger SV are deep in the hole as they have lost six in a row in Bundesliga, been kicked out of DFB Pokal with 0:5 under the week against Bayern and constant irritation about the future of coach, head of sports and even president complicate the situation furthermore. Now a true test for the spirit of the team is ahead as they meet last placed Eintracht Braunschweig in a direct relegation struggle match on Saturday.

Another relegation concurrent, SC Freiburg, will face FC Bayern Munich in the meantime not really counting on three points for obvious reasons. However one of the two draws FC Bayern´s matches ended with came in the game against Freiburg in first leg. Dortmund´s opponent will be the same as in DFB Pokal under the week where they luckily beat Eintracht Frankfurt with 1:0. Now the team of Armin Veh might seek for some revenge for the late winning goal scored by Aubameyang just seconds before the end.

Leverkusen against Schalke

This weekend´s headliner when it comes to the upper part of chart will take place in BayArena when Bayer 04 Leverkusen, just been kicked out of DFB Pokal by second league team Kaiserslautern, will receive FC Schalke 04. Schalke could reduce distance to second place to three points by winning.

More games on Saturday will see Werder Bremen play against Borussia Moenchengladbach while TSG 1899 Hoffenheim will receive VfB Stuttgart. Mainz 05 and Hanover 96 will open up matchday 21 on Friday night and the matches between FC Augsburg and 1. FC Nuremberg as well as between Hertha BSC Berlin and VfL Wolfsburg will round up the football weekend in Germany.
