Relegation struggle, race for Europa League still exciting
Although Hamburger SV and FC Augsburg are already saved relegation struggle in German Bundesliga stays exciting as Berlin and Cologne are still in danger of direct relegation. On the upper parts of the chart everything already has been decided but one position for Europa League.
Hamburger SV and FC Augsburg will play in first German Bundesliga next campaign for sure. Both clubs achieved goalless draws against their opponents Mainz 05 and Borussia Moenchengladbach. 17th placed Berlin and 16th placed Cologne both lost their matches and secured HSV´s and FCA rescue.
Cologne lost 1-4 against SC Freiburg while Berlin was crushed 4-0 from Schalke. S04 is now safe in Champions League next season as Gladbach cannot surpass them anymore in race for position three in chart. Gladbach will be number four and will have to qualify for Champions League.
VFB Stuttgart and Bayer 04 Leverkusen will play Europa League next campaign. Bayer secured the starting place by defeating direct rival Hanover 96 with 1-0. Stuttgart lost 0-2 against FC Bayern but was already secured last matchday.
Hanover on the other hand can still manage to get to Europe by winning next week but they feel Wolfsburg´s pressure as VFL are only one point behind them in chart. Felix Magath´s team defeated Werder Bremen with 3-1.
1. FC Nuremberg and Werder Bremen still have theoretical chances being three points behind Hanover having the worst goal difference. Nuremberg beat Hoffenheim with 3-2. Daniel Didavi was once again man of the match with one goal and one assist. Tomas Pekhart scored twice for Nuremberg.
Champion Borussia Dortmund beat 1. FC Kaiserslautern with 5-2 playing with a lot of substitutes. Lucas Barrios for example who will leave the club when the season is over scored three times. Long time injured Mario Goetze also scored once.
