After the first match and it´s big referee mistake that saw Brazil take the lead against Croatia second matchday fueled the ref debate even more. Four big mistakes in the first two matches of the day, all leading to goals with Mexico being refused two legally scored ones while winning only 1:0 against Kamerum and one goal being given for each team that actually was not one during the match of Spain and Netherlands. Chile meanwhile beat Australia 3:1.

Arjen Robben scored twice during the match with Spain.

While the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil only being two days old the debate about referee mistakes is already heated up. After the wrongly given penalty that lead to Brazil´s lead in the match with Croatia the second match of the cup saw Mexico scoring three legal goals and winning 1:0 as their first two goals were refused by the referee. Both times an offside position was alleged by the refs, both times they were wrong, with the second attempt being a pretty clear mistake as the ball came from an opponent. In the end it did not change the outcome of the game significantly though.

The second game of the night was Spain against Netherlands, a rematch of 2010´s World Cup final. Spain got in the lead after a really questionable penalty decision. The pictures clearly showed that the contact was starting from Spain forward Diego Costa´s direction. After that Robin van Persie provided the first real highlight of the tournament with a beautiful diving header from about 14 meters distance.

After the break Netherlands got off to a better start and a very strong playing Arjen Robben put his team in the lead for the first time before Stefan de Vrij scored the 3:1 after a set-play. Spain´s keeper Iker Casillas was clearly fouled within his six-yard box just before de Vrij hit the ball which should have lead to the referee refusing the goal, but he did not. After that Spain tumbled and van Persie and Robben finished them off for the 5:1 final score. The last game of matchday two saw Chile and Australia go head to head with Chile winning 3:1.
