The Bundesliga is back and the first matchday of season 2013/2014 showed why it was badly missed during the summer. The 18 teams in first league scored astonishing 37 times in the first nine matches. FC Bayern made the start with defeating Glabdach on Friday night. Dortmund beat Augsburg on Saturday but the biggest surprise of matchday one was the 6-1 crushing victory of recently promoted Berlin over Frankfurt.

Hertha BSC Berlin´s crushing 6-1 victory over Frankfurt was the first big surprise of the young season.

The first match of the season was FC Bayern Munich against Borussia Moenchengladbach. FCB showed a strong performance when it comes to the offense with Arjen Robben (11th minute) and Mario Mandzukic (15th) scoring early in the game. The defense however did not look as solid as last year with Dante scoring an own goal just before the break.

In second half Gladbach played better and had some good opportunities to equalize before a real strange scene happened. Gladbach´s defender Dominguez touched the ball with the hand in the box resulting in a penalty. Thomas Mueller failed to score but the bouncer landed at Robben´s feet with the next tackling resulting in another penalty, again after a handball by Dominguez. David Alaba scored the 3-1 final result for an overall well earned victory.

Dortmund´s new arrival scoring three times

Borussia Dortmund beat FC Augsburg on Saturday afternoon with 4-0. New arrival Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (24th, 66th, 79th) scored three times for BVB before Robert Lewandowski put the finishing touch on the match. The 4-0 however did not reflect the two performances as Augsburg was nearly on an eye-to-eye level for most of the match.

The biggest surprise of the weekend was up to Hertha BSC Berlin as the newly promoted team beat Europa League playing Eintracht Frankfurt with 6-1. Adrian Ramos (18th, 71th) and Sami Allagui (58th, 60th) each scored twice for Berlin. Bayer 04 Leverkusen meanwhile beat SC Freiburg with 3-1. The new arrival Heung-Min Son already played very well together with his team mates Sidney Sam and Stefan Kießling.

Hanover defeating decimated Wolfsburg

Hanover 96 won the Derby of Lower Saxony against VFL Wolfsburg with 2-0. Leon Andreasen (17th) and Szabolcs Huszti (84th) scored the two goals for 96 with VFL having to finish the game with only nine man on the pitch as Arnold and Klose had been sent off by the referee during the match.

The match between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and 1. FC Nuremberg ended 2-2 with the referees denying Hoffenheim a goal as Voland´s shot clearly surpassed the goal line. Werder Bremen won the Saturday night match against promoted Eintracht Braunschweig with 1-0 thanks to a very late goal and Mainz defeated VFB Stuttgart on Sunday with 3-2 in a strong match.

Schalke, HSV in big fight

The last game on Sunday was a worthy finishing touch of matchday one. FC Schalke 04 and Hamburger SV put on a big fight with Schalke scoring after 80 seconds in person of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. HSV got back into the game with van der Vaart (12th) and Beister (24th) turning things around before Huntelaar equalized the score just before the break. New arrival Lasse Sobiech (49th) put HSV back on the winning track before Adam Szalai (72th) shot the 3-3 for Schalke for the finishing result.
