Strong Performances from German Teams

The three German teams in Champions League once more played strong matches. FC Bayern crushed Lille with 6-1, Schalke 04 equalized a 0-2 lead of FC Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund only drew in Madrid because of a late equalizer by Mesut Oezil. All results of matchday four are listed below the text.

Germany´s teams showed more strong performances in Champions League on Tuesday and Wednesday. FC Bayern Munich were never really in trouble winning 6-1 against LOSC Lille being 5-0 in the lead at half time already. Bayern have nine points now, same as Valencia both leading third place by three points.

Schalke 04 turned things around in the home game against FC Arsenal after being 0-2 behind. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (45th +2) and Jefferson Farfan (67th) equalized the score for Schalke giving them eight points and an excellent position to get through to the round of 16.

Dortmund close to sensation

Borussia Dortmund nearly made the sensation perfect as they were close to win two out of two against Real Madrid. Dortmund´s Reus (28th minute) had scored the lead but Pepe (34th) equalized only six minutes later after a long ball from Mesut Oezil. Dortmund were the much better team in first half over all resulting in scoring the lead once again just seconds before the end of first half. Arbeloa was the unlucky one to score an own goal but Mario Goetze more or less forced him into it.

Real were the much better team in second half though but Dortmund defended their lead with a lot of passion. The inevitable result however was the equalizer from Mesut Oezil (88th) but it came seconds before the end and was scored by a free kick. Dortmund´s position to get to next round is excellent though as they have eight points and third placed Ajax only have four.

The biggest surprise of matchday four in UEFA Champions League was the defeat of FC Barcelona in  the match against Celtic in Glasgow. The Scottish beat Barca with 2-1 due to a strong fighting performance.
