Tension in relegation struggle

The big questions in Bundesliga already have been answered: FC Bayern are the champions, Dortmund will be second and Schalke and Leverkusen most certainly figure out who will be third and fourth. Despite those facts there is tension in relegation struggle and the run for Europa League.

New team of head of sports Alexander Rosen and coach Markus Gisdol are supposed to prevent Hoffenheim from relegation.

FC Bayern Munich and Dortmund both had quite the good week as they qualified to UEFA Champions League semifinals. Now it will be back to normal again for them but BVB´s match in Fuerth and FCB´s South Derby with Nuremberg do not really seem to be of any importance whatsoever. This week´s headliner between FC Schalke and Bayer 04 Leverkusen has a little bit more potential in that department. If Leverkusen win the game they most certainly will have secured third place, but in case of a Schalke victory the gap between the two would shrink to one point potentially giving the race for direct Champions League qualification a lot of tension and excitement back.

The highest tension at the moment however seems to be in relegation struggle. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and FC Augsburg are only separated by one point at the moment with Augsburg sitting on position 16. Hoffenheim will have to play in Wolfsburg this weekend while Augsburg will receive Eintracht Frankfurt on late Sunday. Fortuna Duesseldorf on position 15 at the moment with five points more than Augsburg will play against Werder Bremen on matchday 29.

Run for Europa League

Several teams still have the option to qualify for Europa League as the chart situation is at the moment. SC Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt have the best chances at the moment with 42 points. Freiburg will face a direct rival in Hanover 96 (38 points) on Friday night. Borussia Moenchengladbach with 41 points will be playing against VFB Stuttgart on Sunday.

Hamburger SV (38 p.) and Mainz 05 (39 p.) will go head to head on Saturday. HSV have been criticized for weeks now, coach Thorsten Fink changed the team captain to Rafael van der Vaart and the match with Mainz might be the last chance to stay in touch with Europa League positions in chart.
